Study Date
Written By Savvy Auntie Staff Writers
Now that Labor Day has come and gone, the time for books and teacher's dirty looks (as the song goes) is back in full swing. Take this opportunity to help your nieces and nephews transition back into school seamlessly by setting up weekly study dates!
What You'll Need:
- A list of assignments and goals from your niece or nephew
- A quiet study space with a table, chairs and good lighting
- Plenty of school supplies: pens, pencils, paper, books
What to Do:
1. Make a list of goals for assignments you'd like to get accomplished during your time together. Auntie, it helps if you have reading material or something to work on too.
2. Review and research their assignment list beforehand, so you're prepared to handle questions.
3. Procrastinating and digressing are the biggest adversaries to homework, make sure to keep them on task.
4. Work through problem sets together or help proof-read essays once they're done, an extra set of eye balls is always helpful.
5. Long-distance Aunties, try virtual study time via Skype or Join Me. Or offer to proof read essays via email.
6. Always help them double-check their work.
7. Have healthy snack time or another treat ready for when the homework is done—hard work should reap rewards!
