GeoCaching
Hello Fellow Aunties!
My niece (I am sure like all of your nieces and nephews) does not have the same or average interests as her peers. My niece is very inquisitive and has shown critical thinking skills early. She has also expressed boredom with her classmates or certain subjects. We all know the boredom of others and certains subjects does not last forever. So I introduced her to Geocaching this year. She absolutely loved it!
For those of you who do not know what Geocaching is it is a worldwide scavenger or treasure hunt. Geocaching is basically using billions of dollars of GPS technology to find tupperware in the woods. Check out the website at www.geocaching.com. This is a low cost hobby by the way. There are books at the library you can check out to bone up on the subject. You can use a compass, a gps locator or down load a free "Intro to Geocaching" app on a smartphone. You can even look up where geocaches are in your neighborhood and print out the map and follow the clues.
There are lots of scouting groups that also Geocache.
This is an activity for all ages around the world. I hope some of you get to do this activity. It's a lot of fun and helps you notice and learn about stuff all over the world and even in your own backyard.
The picture is of my niece and look what she found in the log! It was a cammo container filled with trinkets and prizes. Took us a few minutes to find this one.
