If you really want to get your nieces and nephews creative juices flowing during the Christmas season, have them build their own decorations that you can showcase during the holiday and keep forever.

Here is an example of an ornament that I built (which I still have!) many years ago: Reindeer Tree Ornament

What you need:

• A large colored light bulb
• Brown pipecleaner
• Small red pom pom
• 2 wiggle eyes
• Small bell
• Colored ribbon
• Glue gun

How to build a reindeer tree ornament:

• Start out by gluing the red pom pom to the tip of the light bulb to form the nose
• Next, glue the 2 eyes next to each other but above the nose
• Cut a piece of ribbon and glue each end to the light bulb above the eyes – this will create a loop which you can use to hang the ornament on your tree
• Bend the pipecleaner in half and form it in the shape of 2 antlers
• Glue the center of the pipecleaner on top of where the ribbon ends meet
• To finish the reindeer, glue the small bell on top of the center of the pipecleaner Now have your nieces and nephews find the perfect spot on your tree to display their beautiful reindeer ornaments!
