Postcard Love
Written By Savvy Auntie Staff Writers
Long distance Aunties, it hard to be away from your nieces and nephews. It’s difficult to talk to the younger ones on the phone because it’s hard to understand what they are saying. And older ones just don’t always love to talk.
Instead of connecting over the phone exclusively, try connecting by mail! Send a postcard to your nieces and nephews once a week or once a month. The postcard doesn’t have to be from a city you travel to, but the city you live in. Or, find postcards that are not city related.
For younger kids, keep it simple, like: “I miss you ! XO.” For older kids, share some exciting news. When you begin the postcard activity, perhaps send blank, postage paid postcards to the kids to have them reply with their own after their receive yours.
Even if you mail the postcards to multiple kids on the same day, they may not all receive them on the same day. So, consider sending one postcard for all the kids, or send the cards together in one envelope. It kind of defeats the purpose, but you never want a child to feel left out, even for a day.
