Democratic Fun
Written By Savvy Auntie Staff Writers
It's election season and while your nieces and nephews may be too young to vote, it's not too early to give them a little lesson in the democratic process. The following are great lessons any American child needs to know - and many can be done from Long Distance!
All the Presidential Men
There have been 43 presidents of the United States. How many can you name? You and your nieces and nephews can get more presidentially savvy with the US government's Past Presidents page.
White House Quiz
The US government website also has a great quiz to help kids learn more about Life in the White House. How many did they get right? Give out red and blue stars for correct answers.
Learn More About the Candidates
Your nieces and nephews may know the names of the presidential candidates and their running mates, but what do they really know about them? Time for Kids has a great resource for learning more about Senator Obama, Senator McCain and their running mates.
Kids Vote!
Nickelodeon has developed a fantastic site on the Election called Kids Pick the President. It let's them learn more and cast their vote. Of course, it doesn't count for the real election, but it will make them feel counted!
Take them to Vote
If you live near your nieces and nephews, take them to vote with you. Let them be a part of the democratic process by experiencing democracy at work!
Just Ask Them
Older kids have opinions on just about everything. If they could vote now, who would they vote for and why?
Election Night Fun
Invite your nieces and nephews over for an Election Night party, so they can celebrate democracy with you and the rest of the family.
