Writing to Needy Kids
These economic times, harsh as they may be, opens the opportunity for children to learn and understand the plight of those less fortunate. Especially those in countries where basic needs are challenging to meet. If this interests you, may i suggest sponsoring a child together?
I had already sponsored a child through World Vision, then decided to add two more that were specifically close in age as my two youngest niece and nephew. They now write to these children as well. When I receive information from World Vision on the children, I send them the updates as well. It's a great way to bond over a common endeavor. Plus, they are learning about the country in which the children reside, what true poverty really means, and to be more appreciative of the blessings in their life.
I chose World Vision, but there are many organizations that facilitate child sponsorship. Just search "child sponsorship" on the web, and you'll find many listings. However, be on the lookout for scams. If there is no financial data detailing how funds are used, and/or if a significant amount goes to administrative costs instead of serving the people, proceed with caution, or just steer clear altogether.
