My husband and I were always annoyed there was not a single word for nieces and nephews. I know it sounds incredibly lazy but it is annoying to have to say nieces and nephews everytime you are referring them collectively. So, we created a single word for them - NIBLINGS - as in the children of our siblings. We like it and they do too.

It is much easier to say let's invite the niblings to xxx or let's visit the niblings this weekend. So much better than nieces and nephews.

Feel free to use, BUT if it is ever adopted by a dictionary as a real word I want credit!!!

My nieces are Wudge and Booley - its the first thing I thought to call them when holding them in my arms as newborns!!

I have one niece, Lindsey, who is almost eight. I call her Lindsey-Lu, and/or Doodlebug. She calls me Tante, or Tanti.

I'm not sure how it started, but my niece is Sweet Pea... which may have stemmed from her utero-name, Peanut. Her big brother doesn't have a nickname though... I think that's because mommy and daddy were so insistent that we not shorten his name (e.g., Rob vs Robert, Will vs William, Chris vs Christopher).

Somehow, every one of my nephews, at one point or another, has been called Big Boy. No matter now that one is a 1st Lt. in the Air Force, one is studying to become a pilot and just became of legal age; one is nearly 17 and driving his first vehicle; and my youngest nephew is nearly 8 and would really question why I would call him that now! My nieces: Oldest one, at 25, yes, she is still referred to as Big Girl I also have Britter and JennaBenna among my six nieces. Devan I haven't really messed with, however, Chelsea goes by Chelsea Lorraine Maria Teresa (combo of my name, my mother's, and Maria thrown in just for the sound of it. )The youngest is, of course, into everything Princess, and therefore she has been dubbed Princess Amanda.
