I want my own kids someday when I am married and am able to bring my child into a two-parent home. I don't want it any other way.

I have always wanted to be a mother. I turned forty this year as well and I have to say the child issue is something I think about daily and discuss with my closer friends at great length. The problem is the expense - I live in Vancouver, Canada, where housing and childcare are both extremely expensive. I continue to put off motherhood because financially I still can't swing it on my own. However, I can't help but think that I'm not the only person in this situation and I wish sometimes a little more attention were given by the media to the almost prohibitive cost of having, adopting or even fostering a child in Vancouver. I've seen plenty of articles about women who are choosing not to have kids, but how about women who would like to have them but can't afford them?

wow - long rant. Sorry!

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread to post to, meaning if it was meant for single women who may want children, but I've always wanted children of my own, but after being married for three years, trying for a baby, going through tons of infertility treatments, including IVF, we decided it wasn't in the cards for us. It's been 10+ years since we've gone through infertility, and we are now content with having my niece, nephews and godchildren. There are times I still wish I could have had a baby, but now being 42 and in a lifestyle that we are very accustomed to, we are content with our three furkids!

I am 36, happily single woman who never subscribed to the ticking biological clock. I was never that girl who had to be married or have children in a certain time frame or at all for that matter.

But last year I realized the answer was YES! I want children!! I would love for my child to experience growing up with my niece (8 months) and Nephew (3y years).

So, I have started researching the option of adopting ... Slowly I started talking to my family and friends about my decision and I can't begin to tell you how wonderfully supportive everyone has been!!

This will definitely be a journey to write about!

I did when I was younger, but the opportunity never arose. I think deep down I was meant to be a mother figure for more than two or three kids - thus I satisfied that need through teaching. I've taught over 7,000 kids in my career and they will always be mine.
