Sister in law conditional?

My sister in law can't stand me. Her right. She cannot seem to bear being polite to me at family occasions, opting for the silent treatment and complete avoidance. (That is admittedly much better than open hostility.)

The thing is, she expects the ice-cold treatment of me to have no impact on her relationship with our kids. DH told her that if she wants a relationship with him and her nieces and nephews, then she has to manage civility and polite behavior towards me at family events.

She doesn't see what one has to do with the other.

What do you think?

She should totally have to be polite to you around the kids at least, although it would be nice if she could get over herself and learn to like you for you. But her negativity could have a major impact on the kids. I mean they shouldn't have to feel like spending time with thier auntie, is going to damage thier relationship with thier mommy b/c auntie can't get over whatever issues she has with you. If it were me I would request the same thing your DH did and in addition would have to ensure that nothing negative about you ever escaped her lips when shes with the kids.
