I completely agree. While my niece is 12, I still feel that Miley is not the greatest role model. I used to like her back when Hannah Montana first started, and would watch the show and even attended a Hannah Montana concert with my niece. But now I feel like she's well on her way to an eating disorder, substance abuse, and mental breakdown like some other tween role models (ie: Olsen Twins, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears to name a few). Even on the show, her character is becoming more and more of a diva. Remember the days when Hannah just wanted to be a normal kid? Not anymore!

I do like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, though, because they are managing to maintain more of an innocence. Hopefully they can keep it up.

I'm not a big character fan at all - from the Disney princesses, Dora the Explorer, to the Wiggles - any form of entertainment seemingly established to see product makes me a little sick to my stomach.

The healthy influence of this movie - and the radical presence of an African American princess - continues to amaze me.

I may not like the power of Disney on children, but I have come to have a healthy respect for it.

I had completely fallen off the SavvyAuntie bandwagon for a while due to some crazy goings on in my life-- at both ends of the amazing/terrible spectrum (my niece was born and I became a Godmother, but I also lost my job and my own Godmother passed away...) I would definitely like to write up an Auntiepedia post about some of the Disney channel girls. It might just take me a few more days because I am transitioning into full-time child care for my baby niece this week (YAY!) while my sister and BIL work.

I know this thread is old . When my oldest niece Ashli (not her real name) became a fan of Miley Cyrus in her Hannah Montana days,I wasn't TOO worried. But when she (Miley) started flaunting herself,THEN I started getting worried. Thankfully Ashli has a good head on her shoulders isn't too much into Miley Cyrus anymore . WHEW!

I was just writing the same thing! There is such a lack of role models for boys. I'm so glad my two nephews have such an amazing dad and role model- my brother! He is a single dad but does everything he can for those boys. I actually just entered him into this contest I saw on the JIC website - Gems Among Us www.jic.org/gemcontest - he's so inspiring everyone needs to know. Plus, I get $5000 in jewelry - can't beat that! LOL
