As a Savvy Auntie editorial intern who has shared some of the thrills and challenges of her own stages of aunthood here, I am thrilled to share the news that I have a new nephew! My sister's second child is named Luca.

Needless to day, the entire family is excited about Luca’s arrival, but I think my three-year-old niece Ava’s reaction to the baby is the best. Throughout most of my sister’s pregnancy, Ava couldn’t wait for her baby brother to be born. But, as I shared here months ago, she had mixed feelings.

But, now that baby Luca is here, Ava could not be happier. It helped Ava to have her brother in front of her, rather than just imagine what it might be like when he arrived. Now, instead of worrying that her baby brother would take all the attention away from her, Ava sees her role as helping her mom and dad take care of him. She is embracing her “big sister” title and sees Luca as someone she can talk to, teach, have fun and grow with.

My sister lives on the other side of the world so I’ve only met my nephew Luca via FaceTime. The good news is that we are planning my visit in a few months and I can’t wait to see my baby nephew and his big sister, my niece Ava, together for the first time.
