The Biggest Week In Children’s Books!
By Jaime Herndon
Most of us read books to and/or with our nieces and nephews, and this week, there’s a big reason to do just that!
May 4 -10 is the 96th National Children’s Book Week. Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the United States. Based on the idea that books can be life-changing, the initiative is run by Every Child a Reader, a literacy organization dedicated to helping instill in children a life-long love of reading.
This week, why not check out the Children’s Book Week website for activity ideas and official events, and share your favorite books from childhood with your nieces and nephews? Head to the local library or bookstore and take some time to talk about the books each of you likes to read, and why, and perhaps pick out a new one or two. If you’re feeling really inspired, help them write their own “book” and have them tell you all about their story!
