Scars? Dermabrasion May Be a Solution for Older Kids
If older nieces and nephews are concerned about scars, dermabrasion may be right for them. Here’s what you need to know:
For Older Nieces and Nephews
Dermabrasion and dermaplaning are procedures that may be used to soften, smooth out and improve facial and body scars from accidents, acne, dog bites and previous surgeries.
In appropriate candidates or older children, the procedures may be performed under local anesthesia, but most of your nieces and nephews will prefer general anesthesia. There will be some down time as the skin heals and the healing process requires patient compliance – no picking and no scratching!
Like all surgical procedures, there are risks of scarring, infection, change in color or pigmentation, and this will be discussed in detail at your consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.
For Savvy Aunties
For our Savvy Aunties, facial wrinkles and lines may be softened with dermabrasion – especially the stubborn frown lines.
Please contact me or another qualified, board certified plastic surgeon with any questions before making a final decision about dermabrasion or dermaplaning.
