How to Celebrate the 10th Annual Auntie’s Day

As Sunday, July 22, 2018 approaches, we want to remind the Savvy Auntourage that Auntie’s Day, which occurs annually on the fourth Sunday in July, is a celebration of modern aunthood: Aunthood Is a Gift. This Day Is Ours!
We try to be the best aunts by relation (ABR), aunts by choice (ABC) to our friends’ children, and godmothers we can be. When we’re with our nieces and nephews or godchildren, we strive to make each visit more memorable than the last. When we’re apart, we plan our next visit by choosing a movie to see, book to read, game to play, maybe picking up or baking their favorite snacks, and more. In the meantime, we’re hearing all about their day on the phone or FaceTime, or texting or Snapchatting with the older ones, counting down the days until we’re reunited.
We always have their best interest in mind. We do our best to be there every step of the way, wiping their tears when they’re upset, kissing their booboos, checking for monsters under the bed, being their ConfidAunt as they grow up and need a trusted ear.
Auntie’s Day is a day where our love for, and devotion to, our nieces and nephews can be acknowledged and celebrated. That’s why we can spend it however we like. Some aunts and godmothers may want to be with their nieces and nephews and revel in the joy of being their Auntie, while others might want the “day off,” from aunt duties.
Perhaps your family and friends have something planned for you, like a BBQ, trip to the beach, gifts from your nieces and nephews, or simply showering you with love for the day.
On the other hand, maybe you’re looking for a “treat myself” kind of day, and a simple card or text from your nieces and nephews is more than enough. Maybe you have some friends in your Auntourage who could all use a trip to the spa, a shopping spree, and a mimosa-filled brunch. Or, for Savvy Aunties who want the best of both worlds, an early brunch with the girls and dinner with nieces and nephews. Remember: this is YOUR day, Auntie! However you want to spend it is exactly what you deserve. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate or be celebrated!
