Is your niece or nephew one of the 70 percent of drivers who admit to using their smartphone while driving? Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety collaborated with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) on a study to determine why so many people are doing so, especially teens. In a survey of 1,622 eleventh and twelfth grade students, 55 percent said they were updating their parents, 37 percent were updating their friends about plans, and 34 percent were distracted by app notifications.
While texting is a problem, it is not the only one. When the survey asked drivers about their smartphone habits behind the wheel, 33 percent said they were email, 27 percent said they were on Facebook, and 11 percent said they were using Snapchat.
Remember to talk to your niece or nephew and remind them that It Can Wait.
