TTPM Editor's Review
What It Is
Get behind the wheel of the Batmobile with the LEGO Batman App-Controlled Batmobile, model number 76112. First, you use the 321 pieces to build the Batmobile, complete with a new-for-August-2018 Batman minifigure with a Batarang, and then you connect the Batmobile via Bluetooth to the free iOS and Android LEGO Powered Up app so you can control the Batmobile.
The Batmobile model features two motors powered by a Bluetooth-controlled battery hub, an opening cockpit for the minifigure, four-wheel drive, and two dual stud shooters. The rugged wheels are not free-wheeling, so you will need the app to get those wheels rolling.
Within the app, there are two modes for controlling the Batmobile. The blue mode is supposed to be about speed, while the red one is more about action. Each one features a different controller interface, but the basic idea of how each one is used is the same. Slide both sides forward to go forward or backward to go straight back, and one forward and one back to turn. There are also three stunt buttons within each mode, and you'll hear sound effects as the Batmobile performs each pre-programmed stunt.
Is It Fun?
Fans of Batman will like building the Batmobile and getting to drive it, though there might be a slight learning curve to getting a feel for the controller. The stunts and sound effects enhance the imaginative play for younger fans who want to create their own superhero stories for the Caped Crusader. Older fans will like the combination of LEGO building and R/C toy, plus the brand new look for the Batman minifigure.
Who's It For?
The App-Controlled Batmobile is for ages 8 and up. It's going to be a fun build for Batman fans who will also like being able to drive what they've built.
What To Be Aware Of
It took TTPM's Master Builder between 30 and 40 minutes to build this. The instructions were easy to follow.
The Batmobile does require six AAA batteries, which are not included.
The LEGO Powered Up app is a separate download. A smart device is not included.
