The Savvy Auntie site and Community provides aunts with a unique opportunity to share ideas and expertise and to seek advice and opinions from other aunts and experts. SavvyAuntie.com is the first website to enable aunties to network with each other for any variety of purposes, such as sharing the best gift ideas, the best way to handle sensitive family situations, or just to share their diverse experiences to name a few. We are here to support one another, connect and explore Aunt-hood – and empower each other as Savvy Aunties. Our members are encouraged to share openly so we can all learn from each other and do our best for our nieces and nephews.
We appreciate the multi-cultural aspects of aunt-hood and that aunt-hood can mean different things to different women, depending on their personal or ethnic backgrounds, ages and family situations, so we welcome your diverse opinions and your freedom to express them.
Although we don’t want to be perceived as a strict ol’ Auntie, we do think it’s important that all Savvy Aunties adhere to some straightforward guidelines so that everyone enjoys their time spent on the Site. It’s not like we’re expecting “Aunties Gone Wild” or anything, but there’s no harm in posting some rules. Unfortunately, failure to follow the rules may result in termination of your membership. By becoming a member or by visiting or using the Site you are agreeing to abide by these rules:
1. Is That You, Auntie?
Don’t misrepresent yourself on your Profile, your Groups, Forums, Blogs, or in your Comments, your Expertise or any other content, images or video you post on the Site. Please make sure your screen name is not vulgar. And if your name happens to be Jennifer Aniston, ok. But if it isn’t don’t pretend it is – or use any famous name for that matter. We only want authentic people here.
2. Be Open and Share, But Please be Polite
We’re all in this together. Since this is the first and only social network for Aunties, let’s give each other the benefit of the doubt and open our Groups, Forums and Blogs to each other’s comments and views. And if you are the one sharing your voice, be nice. Do not humiliate, harass, name call, insult, abuse, threaten, create libel, lie or defame other Aunties. Nasty Aunties aren’t welcome here. And never, ever say bad things about our nieces and nephews or their artwork, photos, videos or anything to do with them. It is our collective goal to protect these kids.
3. R-Rated and X-Rated
Do not post adult content or images – including naked photos of yourself, other adults, or kids. And no vulgar language, please. You never know when little nieces and nephews are reading and watching. Creepy content is not cool.
4. No Soliciting
Please do not ask members for donations to help yourself, your Auntie, your family, your friends, or anyone else for any reason.
5. No Advertising
Don’t advertise. There are proper channels on the Site for that and you may contact sales@savvyauntie.com to learn about them. If you submit a gift idea, make sure it’s not your own product that you sell. We will trace it back to you and it will not be appreciated. Instead, please submit your product ideas to press@savvyauntie.com. We’ll consider adding it to our catalog, round ups and editor’s picks. Posting other websites URLs is ok, as long as your intention is to help Aunties and not just drive traffic to other sites.
6. Illegal Activity
Do not act illegally or criminally on the Site or permit others to do so. If somebody is acting illegally or criminally, or someone is violating the Terms of Service of the Site, please contact SavvyAuntie.com.
7. Copyrights and Trademarks
Do not post content or images for which you do not have the rights. You’ll get yourself, and Savvy Auntie, in trouble. You should also know that once your content is on our site in the Public areas (e.g.: Forums, Groups, Aunthology), it becomes part of our copyright and we have the right to modify and reuse or republish that content. Please note that the content you post may be indexed by search engines.
8. Keep it Private
While we encourage you to share information with our members, there’s no need to go overboard with your personal information. Please be careful with whom you share your information – and never give out your credit card information to another member. In that same vein, please don’t share information about anyone else either and never post the address, email or any other personal information about your nieces and nephews. Don’t post photos with anything that might identify where they live, go to school or play. And always ask a parent before posting pictures and any information about their kids. They may not want those bathtubs pics on the site no matter how cute they are. And please keep your login information private. We are not responsible if you give your login to someone and they abuse it. If they’re banned, you’re banned. Please also make sure your provided email address is current in case we need to contact you.
9. Report It
We can’t possibly see every posting on the site at all times. If you see something you do not feel is in line with these guidelines, report it. We will do our best to take care of it. Please don’t try to take care of it on your own and make sure to read our Terms of Service to confirm what you are reporting is a true violation.
10. Go Forth with Caution!
If you have an issue or concern about a situation in your life, please use Savvy Auntie Forums and Groups for feedback and the Dear Savvy Auntie column for informal educational purposes. Please note however that we do not provide expert advice. The content, advice and feedback is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical or psychological advice, treatment or diagnosis. If there is a serious medical or psychological concern, please seek counsel from your health provider and never disregard that advice for content your read on SavvyAuntie.com. Of course if it’s a real emergency, don’t delay! Call 911!
11. We Do Our Best
We do our best at Savvy Auntie to assure you a rewarding experience with us. Please report anything that hinders that experience. We may not agree with you every time but we’ll take action immediately when we do. We may need to modify these guidelines over time, and it’s your responsibility to check back. If there is a violation of these rules, report it here.
